The ABC Family Channel has a winner in their new original movie "If Only." This Jennifer Love Hewitt/Paul Nicholls weeper will have teary-eyed teen-age girls glued to their TV screens. It is cheesy, schmaltzy, corny and a lot of other derogatory words but who cares. It works.
Hewitt and Nicholls are lovers living in London. Samantha (Hewitt) is an American music student while Ian (Nicholls) is a successful young businessman. They appear to be in love but Ian has a hard time expressing his feelings and Samantha needs for him to appreciate her.
One day things do not go great between them and at the end of the evening a tragic accident occurs. Ian is distraught. However the next morning he awakes and finds he has gotten a "do over" on this day. He may be able to rearrange fate and save Samantha's life.
This is the dreamy type of movie that touches audiences hearts and makes them wish that fate would be so kind to all of us. It turns on the tear ducts and jumps up and down on our emotions. And we love it!
Jennifer Love Hewitt is at her most beautiful and adorable. She makes Samantha a girl all of us would love. Her character is also a singer and Hewitt delivers the songs pleasantly.
Nicholls' is a real find as Ian. He is remarkably good looking in a Jude Law sort of way. Plus he is a very talented actor. He and Hewitt are a good combination and win over the hearts of all those watching their story.
Tom Wilkinson has a brief cameo as a wise cab driver. The role is so small you wonder why an actor of Wilkinson's stature would take it. But it does add to the enjoyment of the film.
"If Only" is a romantic movie that will appeal to people of all ages. Women will enjoy it more than men but if they can convince their significant others to tune in with them, then a romantic evening can be had by all.
Mark this one down and don't miss it. It is the romantic movie of the year
Junger's bittersweet romance may not be everybody's cup of cinematic tea, but it serves as a cautionary reminder for people to appreciate the blessings that come their way. It also dispenses lessons about loving and taking chances in life. As the film puts it succinctly: Death doesn't put an end to love!
The movie showcases Hewitt's thespic chops-as well as her vocal pipes ... But, what the movie really showcases is the considerable talent of British heartthrob Nicholls. We have been predicting a lucrative film career for Nicholls ever since we caught his remarkable thespic turn in Nicholas Wright's brilliant play on Van Gogh, "Vincent at Brixton," at the Wyndham on London's West End. In this film, he realizes that promise with his unique combination of dramatic skill and charisma.
Jennifer Love Hewitt won't be kicking herself, lamenting "If only I had made 'If Only'" She's attached to star in the romantic comedy about a young couple who gets another chance to relive and alter the day when one of them dies, reports Variety.
"If Only" was originally going to be made by Destination Films, which bought the script two and half years ago for a mid-six figure sum. After that studio went belly-up, the rights were put on the auction block last month in bankruptcy court. Bidding started at $75,000 and ended up at $125,000, with Outlaw Productions winning.
Hewitt will produce via her Love Spell Entertainment banner.
Gil Junger (10 Things I Hate About You) has come aboard to direct Intermedia Films romantic comedy "If Only," with Jennifer Love Hewitt attached to star, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
"If Only" centers on a young couple given a second chance to relive and change the events of a day when one of them dies.
Christina Welsh wrote the original draft; Allison Burnett (Autumn in New York) is rewriting the project for the London setting.
The project aims to go into production in October in London.
Watch out for .....
Jennifer Love Hewitt, who is in London to prepare for her role in the romantic movie "IF ONLY". She plays a musician smitten by a city businessman played by Paul Nicholls. Nicholls was recently at the National Theatre and in the west end in Nicholas Wright's hit play Vincent in Brixton, which also featured Clare Higgins giving one of the year's best stage performances.
The project was previously set up at Destination Films, but the company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection eight months ago. Outlaw bid on the project last month in bankruptcy court, with a beginning bid of $75,000.
But the company found itself in competition with Maverick Films (Madonna's film division company), where former Destination exec Mark Morgan is a senior production executive.
Maverick, which was partnered 50-50 in the deal with an undisclosed production company, ended up winning the auction with a $125,000 bid and had until October 12 to come up with the money. On that date, Maverick's partner unexpectedly pulled out, and the courts decided the project would go to whomever came up with the $125,000 first. Outlaw beat Maverick to the punch by 30 minutes.
Jennifer Love Hewitt's romance with hunky British actor Paul Nicholls has gone from reel life to real life . . . the two have been spotted getting lovey-dovey inside her trailer.
The former "Party of Five" beauty is in London to star in and produce the movie "If Only," playing a musician who falls for a British businessman portrayed by Nicholls, 23.
But set insiders say it didn't take long for the sizzling on-screen chemistry between the couple to spill over to their off-screen time.
"Between takes they've been seen holding hands as they walk through the streets, and they don't seem to care who sees them," a movie insider disclosed.
"They're very lovey-dovey. On one day Paul was seen popping into Jennifer's trailer on two occasions, before and after lunch, and I could see two figures hugging and kissing inside."
Jennifer . . . who hit the big time with "I Know What You Did Last Summer" . . . has packed a lot of romance into her 23 years.
Alec Baldwin became infatuated with her when they filmed "The Devil and Daniel Webster." She's also been linked to Broadway stars Craig Bierko and Patrick Wilson, Latin heartthrob Enrique Iglesias, Jamaican singer Shaggy, MTV VJ Carson Daly, "Blossom" star Joey Lawrence and rock singer Rich Cronin.
And just weeks before she fell for latest squeeze Paul, she was dating another English hunk in London, BBMak rocker Christian Burns.
But Paul is no slouch in the dating game, either . . . he has a history of flings with gorgeous models and actresses.
"Paul's got a trail of broken hearts behind him . . . he's footloose and fancy-free," said a London show business insider. "Paul's not going to be tied down by anybody just yet . . . even a hot Hollywood star like Jennifer!"
